HARMONY IN THE MINOR CONTINUED
91
Here are some Basses for the student to harmonize. Notes not marked are, as usual, Roots of Chords; notes marked x are Thirds of Chords, requiring a First InĀversion; notes marked * are Fifths of Chords, requiring a Second Inversion. See that every Dominant Chord has a Major Third (the Leading Note of the Scale).
In the following Basses let the student pick out his own First and Second InverĀsions. Look out for the Leading Note. These will require study.
When a Bass note is found which can not be the Root of a Chord, it must be either a Third or a Fifth; but, more often than not, it is a Third, indicating a First Inversion. By this time the student knows where to look for a Second Inversion.
